Lost Sheep

Matthew 18: 12-24

Surprise the kids with a paper sack book that has flaps and hidden pictures.  Look for the lost sheep until you find him!

All you need is two paper sacks, some scrapbook paper (or other colored paper or discarded wallpaper samples), some computer pictures of animals, scissors, and glue.

Matthew 18:12-14

In this game, the children have to see if they can find the one lost sheep.  I made several bushes (more than pictured here) and put magnets on the back of each one so I could use this game on our large magnetic whiteboard.  A cookie sheet could be used just as well.  I put a sticker of a sheep on the back of only one of the bushes.  I cut out people from Cricut to make my shepherd.  The children take turns turning over a bush until someone finally finds the one lost sheep.  Many times we will mix up all the bushes and play again.

This same game could be played for the story of the Lost Coin (Luke 15:8-10).  The shepherd could be made into a lady instead and a real coin could be taped or glued to the back of the pieces.  Instead of bushes, the pieces could be cut out of brown paper to be dust piles.

Lost Sheep PowerPoint

This PowerPoint tells the story of the lost sheep with a few silly animations.  This PowerPoint was created using the NIV version of the Bible.  There are no words on the slides so you can just read it from the Bible.

The Lost Sheep

Luke 15:1-7

This is a game we played when we taught the lesson about the lost sheep.  I purchased a bag of tiny white pom poms.  I hid as many pom poms as their were children. I hid them in various places around the room.  When telling the story, each child used their magnifying glass and looked for a lost sheep. Then I finished telling the story.  We invited another Bible class group to join us for a little party with party hats, cookies, and punch celebrating finding the sheep each person had lost.

If the children are old enough not to eat or swallow these, I sent home a bag like this one with pom poms, a magnifying glass, and instructions on how to play this game at home so they can retell the story many times.

I also used this when teaching a different group of children about David as a Shepherd and about Jesus being our Shepherd.

Jesus Tells the Parable of the Lost Sheep

These are two different game boards for the Lost Sheep Scratch Off Game.  I have made 6 different game boards.  There are 2 game boards on each of the pages linked below.  They are free downloads to use and share.

To play this game, print off the game boards, paint a large circle of green paint (with dish soap added) over the sheep and the other bushes, let dry, and let the kids use a penny or Popsicle stick to scratch off the paint from each bush in search of a lost sheep.  For full instructions, click here.
